The Silence of the FIFA (Suarez Bite)

In my preview of this group, I included a clip of Luis Suarez biting another player. It is astonishing that he has done it again, and even more so, is that from the subsequent corner, Uruguay scored and won the game thus advancing to the next stage.
The other clip I already showed you was his cheating 4 years ago against Ghana.

It is sad that he has so much football talent, but FIFA, if they want to maintain some semblance of credibility in the eyes of the world, especially in countries where they are trying to promote the beautiful game, must act and ban Suarez for life now.
He must never play football again and they should offer to pay for the counselling he so obviously needs.

I would love to read your comments

  1. I feel pretty confident that most of my fellow Americans would not endorse biting an opponent. If this had happened in a US league, I suspect Suarez would have been suspended and fined.

  2. Interestingly, I don't have much of a problem with the hand ball.

As for the biting, a lifetime ban sounds a little harsh because until now FIFA didn't do anything. But he should definitely be suspended and whomever he bit should probably sue him for assault.

  3. After that repeat performance, it is clear that Suarez has problems.

I tend to agree with Mark that a lifetime ban would seem a little overkill, but a suspension for a full year would probably send a clear message that FIFA is not willing to tolerate such incidents.

Interestingly, in the NHL there was a case where a player - Todd Bertuzzi - was suspended for one year when there was probably justification for a lifetime ban since his on-ice assault effectively ended Steve Moore's career.

  4. This is a very serious issue and I am pleased that you decided to sink your teeth into it :) .Hopefully FIFA will follow suit and ban him for several months. He should be suitably culled and have his nashers removed !
It is clear to be that nebach young suaraz does not earn enough money to buy basic food and is therefore forced to feed off his opponents. Maybe wiggy you could start a whip round for the lad.
